In the Aug/Sept/Oct issue of Art Doll Quarterly there's an article titled 'What's On Your Workbench'!? I haven't read the article and wonder whether the author was inspired by Lady Julia's inspired blogfest as it has become for many of us on Wednesdays. I visited very few last week as I was at DS's for a few days but did a scheduled post and was kindly linked up by Kate and since getting back have been trying to catch up on some things. I've been working on the 'Elemental' doll that was on my desk last week. Luckily you can't see here the split fingers :-/ but as I'd decided to paint the fabric which covers up the glued splits a bit I thought I'd get away without having to make new hands (though the hands weren't sewn separately I could've chopped her hands off :-0 and sewed new ones) She's almost complete but as she's meant to represent water I want to stand her in a large shell and may add some diaphanous fabric to drape from her head. My WOYWW easel is centre stage as I've given it a coat of acrylic wax.
My desk is fairly tidy this week, though there's still lots of stuff at the back that hasn't been sorted out. Also as I'm showing a different view of the desk today you can see a bit of my messy shelves, there always seems to be a few bits that you can't find a proper home for - or is that just me! There's a piece of card on the mat that I'm working on for a card and some 'Tim' stamps that I'm going to use. Well that's it for me this week, short and sweet :-)
I've gone for an aerial view today, a) because I like them, b) because the rest of the desk is the same mess it's been for too many weeks. The flower is a tracing from a piece of wallpaper that's going to be a stencil and under that are my August pages for my 365 Journal (2 posts down). There's a strip of fabric with some foiled and gel spots on just wanted to see how it washed.
Eek mine's a right mess again. Firstly the eyes are still on my wonderful easel - I won't be decorating mine. There's a piece of paper with an imprint of a flower that I pounded onto a piece of fabric but it didn't turn out very well, too many petals so it wasn't definite enough, but I will have another go. You just pound it with a hammer so if you've lots of pent up frustration have a go. Then there are some stencils I've been using and lots of bits and pieces some of which have been laying around for weeks! Pop over too the magnificent Miss Julia's and see just how many people are proudly showing their workdesks and then join in. Oh you may have heard that it was my birthday on Sunday LOL well I blogged the cards I'd received up till then in Mondays post but here are the ones that arrived Monday and Tuesday - thanks be for cyber friends otherwise the pile would be a lot smaller!.JPG)
I've gone for the full frontal this week as opposed to the aerial view of my desk so you can better see how messy it is. It's that day again, the day snoopy crafters go round snooping at other people's desks/workspaces to see what they're up to; or just to see what their crafty space looks like. Mess, as most weeks, on mine ;-) The black floral thing on the right is a Heidi Swapp mask. The paper trays at the back of the desk have become a dumping ground! I've been intending to sort out my desk all week but obviously not trying hard enough. I thought I'd show the fabric thing I was working on. It was the meeting of our doll group last Saturday, in York, and we had to cut up the fabric piece and sew it together again but not to the original shape, and now we have to hand embroider it. - not something I've done much of except x-stitch! Eventually it will become a vessel :-/ I'm also showing my BIA book which I completed some weeks ago but hadn't embellished the front. I took the pic of this yesterday pm hence the shadow. The paper is 7 Gypsies. I've added stars and numbers using stencil embossing paste, coloured with mica powders and a hessian flower, cut using Tim's Tattered Florals die. I did one yesterday for my Sunday Stampers entry (prev post) but had painted it with acrylic paint. This one I just coloured slightly with DIs. A word of warning if you try using hessian with the same die, the 3rd layer on the flower needs very careful handling and either painting or spraying with glue or something straight away. Yesterday's was ok (though one petal came apart) as I painted it straight away so that held it together. See you at your place ;-)
Have decided to post my tag for Linda's countdown here ;-) I've used some lovely green felt with a bit of free machine embroidery round the edge (as I said above doing circles is not my forte :-/ so if you're experienced don't look too closely hehe) the number 2 is free machined too and I made the flowers out of the rainbow organza. Just to say in my defence here though I made the mistake of doing free machine embroidery on a small surface - not easy!
For the anniversary challenge I've made a felt vessel with fabric flowers, the WOYWW acronym is sewn onto one of the leaves. It's on the desk today, but will live on the windowsill just to the right of my desk. Some may remember the fabric paper I did a few weeks ago, that was intended for bunting but when I saw this fabulous felt I just had to use it. In the main pic you'll see there are a couple of extra flowers - card with sequins, these were the 2nd lot of flowers, I decided to put them in the vase too rather than chuck 'em. The first flowers I made were the yellow felt ones strewn on the desk but I finally settled on the fabric ones. Also on my desk is some card I was playing about with yesterday, stamping with white acrylic paint then colouring with Distress Inks - not for anything in partcular. I stamped it with an Anna Griffin flourish which I love which is on top of the card. You can see a bit of green on my new Big Shot; all will be revealed next week, if not before. Can't wait to see what people have made for WOYWWAC so off for a nosey, a cuppa and cream cake :o)

I've got a new cover for my desk ('cos it's soft wood I decided to have a cover) as I was fed up with the other one, this one is a lovely lilac :) As a result my desk is quite tidy this week. I did take the pic last night just to save a bit of time this morning. 4 pairs of scissors out this week! I'm working on something for the Sunday Stampers challenge hosted by another wonderful woman, namely Hels. The messy thing covered in ink and paint is a piece of plastic which I sometimes use for messy stuff. At the moment there's a bird on top with a layer of 3D gloss on. My MS punches now reside in the plastic tub on the right of the desk. I'm also showing what I'm working on for WOYWWAC (if you're new and haven't read about this yet WOYWW will soon be celebrating it's first anniversary. Check out Julia's post dated 27th April for more info I think it's ok to tell you this is fabric paper, made by glueing tissue paper onto muslin,it's been coloured with paint and mica powders. I'd knocked my tub of ribbons on the floor and as the lid is very loose they all fell out, but as they are just dumped into the tub it's super quick to tidy them up LOL For those who want to see the AG box lid I madeover last week see the previous post :)
