WOYWW 18th August

Happy Wednesday WOYWWers :-)  I'm not showing my desk this week as I've not really done anything much at all apart from sewing, mainly altering stuff for DD.  I am showing a cardi that I've altered.  I bought it some time ago from a shop called All Saints, in Manchester.  It's called a Pirate Cardigan for some reason :-/ if anyone has any idea why I'd love to know.  It seemed ok when I bought it apart from the sleeves being about 6" too long, seriously! but I soon discovered that the sleeves were rather tight and I had to drag them up each time I wore it.  I finally found some lovely black stretch lace at £1 per metre so cut up the sleeves and inserted some lace.  I also chopped loads off - just over 6"!! and put some of the lace at the bottom of the sleeves.   I've made some flowers for the t-shirt I dyed the other week, not sewn on yet - do I need 3?  Also not sure about the 'stem' may just use beads or sequins.  Also showing some net for a tutu I'm in the middle of making for youngest granddaughter - it's more of a turquoise than showing here.
If you'd like to join in this phenomenon called WOYWW pop over to lovely Julia's whose brainwave this was and then dive in, it's all good fun ;-)

Hi Anne, wow lots to see today!

Love the cardi, what a great buy! I know what you mean about things being far too long. I am 5'4", so I have to search for Petite jeans, they are always made for giants! I think they call it a Pirate jumper, due to the long side pieces, have just remembered on Pirates of the Caribean, that they wore similiar tops. I am prob wrong, but hey ho, lol!

Am loving the turquoise net for that tutu, cant wait to see the finished result. Also those flowers are fabulous!

Have a super day, hugs Heidi xx

I'm really late to the party today. My internet was down at the wrong time. I'm really impressed with your sewing abilities. If I had to sew a straight line, I'd be in trouble. I see you changed your avatar. However, I'd have known you anywhere (grin) Happy WOYWW.

Ha Ha Ha, thought your first pic was of a fat belly until I enlarged and saw it was you arm.
Fab job on the cardi, more fab flowers and no stem, nice new pic too. Have had my hair cropped, if I get chance I'll post a pic even though I think they are blurred.
Have a lovely day Anne

I think (and you know that doesn't really mean much,) but I think they are called Pirate Cardigans, because they wrape round, a bit like the 'old pirate tops..but maybe not! Nice new picture of you, or maybe it's the first time I've noticed as at last I have my proper reading glasses on! Have a great WoyWw

Hi Lou, think I have met you at Dyans in Harrogate?

Tim's paper tape is Washi tape, washi tape is a really really old Japanese product and comes in a billion different colours and patterns and a lot cheaper than Mr Tims!!!! I have a rather growing addiction to it LOL. Love your blog and your flowers are awesome I need to come for a visit to learn how to make them!!

ooo I say you have been busy, I love how you rescued the cardi, very clever.

Yes you need 3 , always work in odd numbers, never even. it is a golden rule in all forms of artwork, but especially in flower arranging.

hmmm - I think you are supposed to wear the sleeves ruckled up, tie the long front 'tails ' together, amputate a limb, craft a wood replacement, and have a bird perched on your shoulder?

Argggh Lidl wood burnign toool - are there any left?>

ooh Miss Trendy shopping in All Saints - I would never dare go in! Love how you altered the cardi, very clever. I think the fashion is to have it way over your hands, just looks wrong to me! Still loving the hair and see it must be the permanent new look as you have now changed your piccy.

Gorgeous dressmaking cum alterations there. All Saints is a cool pricey designer shop so you are definitely going to be dressed to kill.... maybe that's why it's a pirate cardy!!!
thanks for your kind message on mine.. love Jo x

Oooo this is my sort of blog..... love the cardi - looks fab and how clever and brave of you to just chop it up!!! Make sure you show us the tutu too - lol

Heather said...

Hi Anne, love your cardi, fab altering, as for the T shirt I would go with three, I always feel even numbers look odd (tee-hee that was a silly thing to say but you know what I mean). Look forward to seeing the tutu.

Thanks for sharing Hugs Candace

Love the cardigan - I wouldnt have thought to do that. With your flowers go with three, I read somewhere once that you should always work with odd numbers for embellishments so now I never deviate and use 3 or 5 etc! Tutu looks good although I would have made flowers from that as I have 2 boys!

Materials are fab aren't they !! The project is exciting !!

Hello there Anne, lovely to meet you, my, you are very crafty, loving what you did to your cardi, I've no idea why they call it a pirate cardigan but if I remember correctly didn't the Navy have some short jackets as uniform?, going back in the mists of time I guess:}
Thank you for dropping by my place now I've got permission I'll not bother tidying (any old excuse):D xx
